In 1987, Jerry and his wife Sandy returned to Alaska, where they opened the popular and prestigious Cyrano's Bookstore and Off Center Playhouse, bringing top quality theater to Alaska. A legend in Alaska at the time of his death, Jerry died of cancer on April 8, 2005 at the age of 75.

In 1972, while he was still majority leader, the twin engine airplane in which Begich was travelling with congressman Hale Boggs, and two others, disappeared while flying from Anchorage to Juneau, Alaska. In an enormous search effort, search and rescue aircraft of the United States Coast Guard, Navy, Army, Air Force, Civil Air Patrol and civilians were deployed to look for the four men and the missing Cessna 310. On November 24, 1972, after proceeding for 39 days, the air search was suspended. Rian Bishop was born May 15, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Having been born into a military family, Rian spent his early years growing up around the world, being exposed to a multitude of different cultures. After a series of injuries derailed a career as a professional ice hockey player, Rian returned to his other passion, acting. After relocating to California, he quickly found work in the world of independent cinema and after appearing in several indie films, Rian would take his experience to television and feature films where he would continue to act, but also gain experience behind the camera as well.
Rian would quickly learn the role of unit production manager and eventually move into the role of a multi award-winning producer.
